You know, at the end of 2011 I thought life was having a lend of me. I was eyeballs in debt, overweight and enormously unhappy.
You see, I had worked very had on a new business only to feel like I was a failure because although I had built a successful foundation, I had run out of money and I needed to take a full time job to support it. The daily commute to Brisbane was doing my head in and I had had enough, the problem was that I didn’t know what to do. Me, not knowing what to do is rare but I truly had nothing. Something had to change.
That change came rather abruptly went I decided to try a class of Crossfit. What is Crossfit I hear you ask?
Crossfit is many things to many people but to me it was a lifesaver. It came abruptly because I knew I was unhealthy but when I tried to run mother 400 metre warm up run and couldn’t do it without stopping for a break I knew something had to change.
Crossfit for the uninitiated according to the Crossfit site is a strength conditioning program used by many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.
A mouthful maybe, to me it is a community, no, more than a community, it is a way of life that is built around constant improvements both physically and mentally. The better you become the more you get addicted.
I won’t go into that much of the detail as I will saw that for another post but I remember my first class very very clearly as I was the guy in the corner afterwards wanting to throw up lol. Fast forward nearly 9 months and I am still the guy in the corner wanting to throw up but it is now on my terms. Personal bests since then? Well i am not the fastest or toughest , but you name it I’ve smashed them.
It’s funny because I have had a lot of personal changes but on top of all of them (losing 23kg, running 10klm marathon and achieving a heap of other personal bests) but something changed when I started Crossfit.
I made the decision to back myself and commit 100% to the business which I had never done before and also to commit to myself. To constant improvement, healthy living and a healthy state of mind.
I have always been a believer in the universe providing but 2012 has been an almost polar opposite of 2011. I have my health both physically and mentally, I have my career and I am truly living the life of my dreams. My family comment that at I tonnes more energy and i feel more happy within myself.
Crossfit, give it try. You might be surprised!!!
